DIY Whipped Body Butter for Dry Winter Skin

RSS

I started making my own body butter a few winters ago after I got of tired re-applying lotion throughout the day. Sometimes, it was literally two minutes later...yes...sigh.  I mistakenly thought that the thicker (and more expensive!) the lotion better, but those factors actually made no difference at all as far as my skin was concerned.

DIY Whipped Body Butter

Finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands (literally) with an easy and effective DIY whipped body butter to the rescue! It's made with just three super-moisturizing natural ingredients, and a little bit goes a really long way. I only need to apply it once in the morning and once at night before I go to sleep and it works wonders on my skin. I use it on #miniboss too and she loves it too!

I buy all of my ingredients in the rawest, purest forms from Whole Foods Market (note: not all of them carry cocoa butter) or my local health food market, depending on who has what in stock.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 oz of raw, unrefined shea butter
  • 4 oz of raw, unrefined cocoa butter
  • 4 oz of raw, unrefined coconut oil
  • Optional: 15-20 drops of essential oil or food flavoring (optional; try: peppermint, lavender, orange or vanilla)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Place shea butter and cocoa butter in a glass bowl over a medium-sized sauce pan of boiling water (do not letter the water touch the bowl). You can also use a double boiler.

2. Bring butters to a gentle boil.

3. Once butters are melted, add coconut oil and mix well.

4. Remove from heat and let cool.

5. Place the mixture into the refrigerator until solid (usually 45 mins-1 hour).

6. Mix on low until the butter starts to make creamy waves.

7. Place the whipped into the refrigerator for 10-15 mins.

8. Spoon the finished butter into an airtight container and store in a cool place for up to 12 months.
